The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation 'CAPTURE' to clarify the illegal placement of numerous traps in a farm in Santomera, which has resulted in the identification of the person responsible for such practices and the confiscation of 26 cages- Trap for rabbit field.
The alleged offender faces sanctions against Law 42/2007 on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and Law 7/1995 on wild fauna of the Region of Murcia, ranging from 100 to 6,000 euros.
The investigation began when civil guards of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), within the framework of the 'Plan to monitor catches of animals that cause damage in agriculture', observed, in a fenced farm of the municipality of Santomera , The presence of a trap-cage that housed a field rabbit.
The agents maintained surveillance on the farm until its owner came to the place, at which time he was required to inspect the premises.
The examination of the ground allowed to locate a total of 26 cages-trap, in three of which had been caught two rabbits and a blackbird, that were released.
Specialists of the SEPRONA verified that the gadgets were not homologated and that its holder lacked the corresponding administrative authorizations that enable for their placement.
The cage traps for field rabbits are a non-selective method, used to prevent the damages caused by them in agriculture.
Prototypes must be approved and their use duly authorized in the event of damage to crops.
The investigation has culminated in the processing of complaints to Law 42/2007, of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and Law 7/1995, of wild fauna of the Region of Murcia, to its holder, and with the confiscation and immobilization of 26 traps Cage, available to the General Directorate of Natural Environment.
