The City Council will invest 467,936 euros in rehabilitating the historic Casa del Huerto (06/02/2017)

Almost twelve years after its acquisition by the Town Hall of Santomera, the House of the Orchard, the oldest house in the municipality, will be finally rehabilitated.

This was made known by the mayor of the town, Inmaculada Sánchez Roca, during a public ceremony held this morning in the historic building, which was also attended by Councilor for Urbanism, Works and Services, Joaquín Rubio Gomariz, the Councilor for Culture and Patrimonio, María Jesús Férez Rubio, the architect who wrote the document, José Manuel Andúgar Villaescusa, media and a group of neighbors.

The House of the Orchard, also known as House of the Garden, House of the Murcia or House of Don Claudio Hernández-Ros, is the oldest house of the whole municipality.

A writing of the year 1756 already registers the purchase of the inheritance where is to its previous owner, the Duke of Burie, on the part of Jose Escrich;

It is probable that by then the present palace already existed, since another notary document of the year 1826 details the transfer of the "main house" to the presbyter Andrés de Garfias Laplana, brother of the then corregidor of Murcia.

The main building, unique to be rehabilitated, was integrated into a large estate that included a famous garden given the interest in horticulture and floriculture of the family Murcia, its owner since the nineteenth century, a hermitage, later rebuilt , And an oil mill of the eighteenth century, currently closed to await its future restoration.

The monumental house, inventoried by the Ministry of Culture and protected by the PGMO given its age of construction and the importance of its former residents in the life of the village, has a living area of 851.9 m², spread over three floors.

The City Council of Santomera will invest in its rehabilitation 467,936.74 euros.

It is, as has been said by the mayor, "the greatest investment in recovery of the historical heritage held in Santomera since 2003, when it was acted on Casa Grande."

"This house and the whole in which it integrates represent a reserve of the Santomera of the nineteenth century, being here allows us to go back to past times," he said.

The first mayor also stressed that, despite the fact that the building has been serving as the Women's Center since 2007, "it was urgent to carry out these comprehensive rehabilitation works to ensure the safety of workers and the correct conservation of the building, Which presents serious damages in its covers and serious damages caused by humidities ".

In this regard, Sánchez Roca recalled that the Autonomous Community granted in 2008 a subsidy of 282,241 euros for the restoration, but "the PP Government team did not carry out, the money was spent on other tasks and then we had to request an extension To not have to return the money ".

The works will be executed by a UTE integrated by Tecopsa and Alebus Patrimonio Histórico, will begin before the end of February and must finish before the next September.

According to the Councilor for Urban Planning, "when awarding the contract we have decided not only the most economical offer, but also the extension of the guarantee, which will be extended to ten years, and the work plan, which will reduce Six the eight-month deadline originally foreseen ".

In spite of this, the works will cost 144,546 euros less than the maximum amount fixed in the budget of licitation.

In relation to the project, Rubio Gomariz stressed that it will allow the adaptation of the house and its outer space for administrative and training purposes, trying to rescue its original imprint, which presents some differences with the current one.
