The tobacco did not have the necessary seals and authorizations for its consumption
Minutes have been processed for breach of the Law on repression of contraband
The products seized have been made available to the Regional Office of Customs and Special Taxes of Murcia
The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed a performance on the AP-7 motorway as it passes through the municipality of Santomera, which has resulted in the apprehension of 30,510 craft cigars that were transported in a vehicle.
A record has been issued for violation of the Organic Law 12/1995, of December 12, on repression of contraband.
The action began when agents specialized in prevention of citizen security detected the presence of a tourism whose occupants showed some signs of nervousness in front of the police presence.
The Civil Guard inspected the vehicle and located, hidden under a plastic camouflage in the rear seats, 21 cartons containing a total of 30,510 craft cigars without a fiscal seal.
The driver of the vehicle could not prove his possession with the corresponding documentation that protected the item of cigars that, supposedly, was going to be destined to its illegal sale.
In that act, all the craft cigars were seized and the corresponding act was drawn up for violation of Organic Law 12/1995, of 12 December, on the repression of contraband.
The tax seals for alcoholic beverages and tobacco are a guarantee for the Public Treasury and for the consumer, since they certify that the product has been legally distributed and that it meets the quality requirements demanded for its commercialization and consumption.
This type of cigars, originating in the Spanish uprising, are traditionally handcrafted without license or permits.
Their illegal commercialization is generally carried out between consumers and trust establishments, who know this activity through word of mouth, which makes ostensibly difficult to locate and apprehend.
The 30,510 confiscated artisanal cigars have been made available to the Regional Customs and Excise Headquarters of Murcia and deposited in the regional warehouse of Tabacalera SA de Murcia.
