A modern landscape of mixed media on board, by the Valencian Salvador Ribes Villaba, has been chosen as the winner of the First National Fast Painting Contest Santomera, held for nine hours last Saturday in the streets, squares, gardens and other public spaces municipality.
Ribes work competed with those presented by the remaining 29 registered artists at senior level, coming from very different parts of the country, and earned 1,200 euros first prize, entirely contributed by the Angel Thomas Foundation.
The second prize of 800 euros was provided by PORCISAN into the hands of David Escarabajal Aguado, Alcoy, by an original representation of the Town Hall Square based pens, stamps, paper and other school supplies.
The third, 500 euros accompanied by STV Management, was awarded to Terrés Rafael Martinez, author of a natural landscape painted with acrylics and classic cut.
Although it was not contemplated in the contest rules, the compound among others by Christopher Belda, Professor of Art History, and the director of the Museum of the City of Murcia, Consuelo Onate jury wanted to endorse the extraordinary quality of the works presented by adding two honorable mentions for works of Miguel Mellado Sanchez and Ana Sanchez Lucas.
The event also had its place to encourage among younger painting.
Among the eight under 16 enrolled, girls Campillo Pelegrin and Valeria Lorena Alvarez Baixauli were made with two awards, sponsored by Cuadros Sils.
The first took home 150 euros in cash, 100 gift certificate and a paint kit, while the second had to be satisfied only with the paint kit.
"It has certainly been a resounding success, both in terms of participation as high as regards the quality of the works," said Councilman Celebration, Javier Campillo.
In the same vein the local painter José Miguel Muñoz, Jomimerlu, one of the main drivers of the contest, who noted that among the artists who came to Santomera were "some of the best professionals in the country" he said.
It is also worth highlighting the interest awakened among neighbors, that number wanted to witness the artists in action.
"This event has been a major cultural stakes of current festivities and undoubtedly will be continued in the coming years if we continue relying on the fundamental support of sponsors," he added the mayor Javier Campillo.
Exposition
Santomera City Council has remained the property of the three winning works at senior level.
Along with the other participants, they will be exposed in the cloister of Casa Grande from today until September 27.
