Santomera City Council has shelved the first participatory budgets in its history.
After a day of attendance voting held last Sunday, the Department of Finance has announced which nine projects to be implemented with the 172,000 euros that are reserved for the General Budget will be necessary.
About three months have been necessary to draft bidding rules with the collaboration of the four political parties represented in the municipal corporation, publicize it among citizens, gather proposals and select the winners.
As stated in the bases of operation, the process has been open to the participation of "all people who live, work, feel and are interested in improving Santomera".
It was not necessary to be registered in the municipality or be of age, as was objective involve young people in public life.
The only requirements for voters were having more than fourteen years and depositing a single vote, for which confirmation has been sufficient to present the DNI.
Summing up the face and deposited over the Internet, there have been 310 votes, in which the participants, according to their preferences, could score from one to five up to five proposals for a single zone, which chose.
Councillor for Finance, Alberto Menárguez, the results are positive: "It involved a 2% of the total population of the municipality we wish it were many more, but it is a satisfactory figure to be a pilot.".
Menárguez also highlights the good overall progress of the four meetings held and the high number of registered proposals, no less than 51 adding those made in Santomera (35), the Sisco (14), La Matanza (7) and Shore Azarbe ( 5).
It passed a double screening process conducted first by those attending the assemblies which were presented and, later, by a technical committee responsible for determining the feasibility of projects according to the budget, that more than fifty proposals was limited to 21, they were finally able to vote.
To ensure a good deal of money available, half of the 172,000 euros equally between the four towns it will be distributed, while the rest will be divided proportionally according to the number of inhabitants.
It was also established that the cost of a single proposal could not exceed 50% of the total budget of each place.
Thus, Santomera correspond to 94,600 euros, with which voters have decided to give itself defibrillators to different public spaces and a friendly road is built with bike path.
With its 28,380 euros, the Sisco has also opted to do a kind way, besides improving their party room.
In La Matanza, 25,972 euros will serve for another stretch of road friendly and, given the tie in the second preference, to the rest modernize sidewalks and put up a multipurpose sports court.
Finally, 23.048 euros for Azarbe Shore is shared equally between two different performances in his modest party room: general conditioning and installation of a small playground.
Municipal technicians immediately begin to shape the ideas chosen with the aim of a reality before the end of the year.
Menárguez however noted that proposals for simpler implementation could materialize even during the summer.
