After 42 years of municipal independence, the municipality of Santomera will have an adequate space for the municipal archive and will convene the archive technique square.
The motion for the creation of this municipal entity was presented in plenary yesterday by the municipal group Alternative for Santomera and approved by all parties with the abstentions of PP and CS, so this agreement should be reflected in the next budgets of 2021 plenary. Santomera became independent in 1978 thanks to the efforts of the residents of Santomera who, since 67, have worked for municipal segregation.
Since then, no physical place has been enabled or available to consult the Municipal Archive or the corresponding qualified personnel, as they do have municipalities of the same size as the Santomeran to collect, organize, preserve, make available to the public, past and present documents produced and received by a city council in its day, as well as from public and private entities derived from their powers in the exercise of their functions. Until now, the work of archivist has been covered by official staff of the consistory without specific training in terms of the daily needs of archiving and documentation, and for the historical part and conservation of historical documents are the associations, people and groups, related to the culture, music, folklore and traditions who have transmitted, preserved or researched the tangible and intangible heritage of Santomera. From Alternativa por Santomera, architects of the motion, they hope that the future municipal archive will complete and enrich the Santomeran heritage, attending and guiding more and more people interested in it, with special support to associations, researchers and students, serving the archive as as a procedure and instrument for research, dissemination and learning of local heritage.
