Archaeological intervention in the Iberian settlement and an environmental education and cleaning campaign win in Santomera

Siscar and La Matanza will improve their respective schools with investments totaling 65,032 euros

The neighbors of Santomera, El Siscar, La Matanza and La Orilla del Azarbe have already decided where they want the City Council to allocate the 210,000 euros allocated to the IV Participatory Budgets of the municipality.

And, on this occasion, the public has decided to bet on investments to recover the historical and cultural heritage, to enhance environmental awareness and cleanliness and to improve public school facilities.

This has been determined by the 683 votes collected during the last week through the Internet and in person, a participation figure very similar to that achieved in the previous edition and which leaves the Councilor for Good Government, María José Medina "satisfied" .

The process of the IV Participatory Budgets started last April, with four assemblies, one for each population center, during which the citizens submitted a total of 35 proposals.

In those same meetings, the neighbors present them prioritized them according to their preferences and in May the time came for the Technical Commission to leave out those that were considered unworkable.

After the application of both filters, the popular support and the technical feasibility, five proposals for Santomera, five for El Siscar, seven for La Matanza and one for La Orilla del Azarbe, reached the final voting phase, which decided to present as the only proposal the drafting of the project for the construction of its own sociocultural center.

Winning Projects

Of the 209,973 euros available in this call, more than half correspond, by population, to the core of Santomera.

With its 116,664 euros, 506 people who voted in the town chose an archaeological intervention as the first option for the enhancement of the Iberian settlement located in the Sierra de Balumba.

Since this proposal will not cover the entire budget released in principle, the second one with the greatest number of support, the execution of an environmental education and cleaning campaign, and perhaps even part of the third, which is the continuation of the project, may also be executed. sidewalk on the Camino Viejo de Orihuela to facilitate access to the soccer field.

Both in El Siscar and La Matanza, citizens mostly supported different projects to improve their educational facilities.

In the first of these nuclei, which has an allocation of 33,418 euros, it has been decided to quadruple in points the second most supported initiative to make reforms in the toilets, the library and the shadow and access areas of the Madre public school Hope.

Although in the field of La Matanza the votes were more distributed, the count has also left as an outstanding proposal the coverage of the sports court of a school, in this case the CEIP Campoazahar, for which there is a budget of 31,614 euros.

Musical preferences

As a novelty, the voting phase has been completed this year with a survey to know the musical preferences of citizens.

Neighbors and neighbors have been able to choose their favorites from a list with a hundred artists and bands whose cache fits the available budget, as well as propose orchestras and DJs.

The results of this consultation will not be binding, but the Department of Festivities will take them into account when scheduling the concerts of the festivities next year.

Participation, upwards

Adding the votes collected through the Internet between October 21 and 24 and in person on Saturday, the 26th, 683 people participated in the final votes.

To this we must add those obtained during the II Participatory Youth Budgets, planned for the third week of November, in which the students of the secondary schools of the municipality may decide, among the proposals they make, the destination of 40,000 euros more.
