Ecologists in Action has denounced that during September 12 and 13 illegal dumping of slurry and fecal waste was made to the Santomera swamp, taking advantage of the torrential rains produced by the DANA, probably hoping that it would be more difficult to detect the spill.
The spills have been carried out by a pig farm on which weighs a closing order and several convictions for spills since 2009.
The organization has requested the Directorate General for the Environment and the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura to take immediate action to close and stop the livestock activity of the pig farm, as it has numerous complaints for similar infractions, and even a closing order that is not fulfilled.
The said pig farm was closed by the Local Government Board of the municipality of Santomera in 2009, due to the illegal dumping, closing that was ratified by the TSJ of Murcia in 2015.
The discharges, which are being carried out continuously by this pig farm since 2006, are causing damage to the flora and fauna of the Protected Natural Area “Ajauque Wetland and Rambla Saladaâ€, which is also LIC and ZEPA.
