The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed an investigation to clarify the causes of the fire of a house in Santomera, which has resulted in the identification, location and detention of a neighbor of the town as the alleged perpetrator of the crime.
The proceedings began at the beginning of the month, when the Civil Guard was alerted to a fire in a house in Santomera.
After the extinction of the fire, which did not result in personal injury although the house was completely burned, an investigation was initiated to clarify the facts and determine if it was an accidental or intentional origin.
The first steps of the investigation indicated that it could be an intentional fire, for which the support of Civil Judicial Police guards who make up the Fire Investigation Team was requested, to carry out an exhaustive technical-ocular inspection of the burning property in order to collect all possible clues.
The preliminary analysis of the information obtained by the Fire Investigation Team of the Benemérita allowed us to verify that the origin of the fire had been intentional and that there were several outbreaks.
As a result of the investigation, the civil guards found out that during the night before the fire a celebration had been held in the affected dwelling that led to a discussion and threats among several people, which allowed establishing the main line of investigation on those involved in the altercation.
Shortly thereafter, a neighbor of the town was identified who, allegedly, was after the authorship of the house fire, so the Civil Guard established a search device that has culminated with its location and detention as the alleged perpetrator of intentional fire damage.
The Civil Guard continues with the open investigation, not ruling out new actions or linking more people to the crime now clarified.
The Spanish detainee, 51, a resident of Santomera and with a police record and the proceedings have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Murcia.
