Santomera celebrated the inauguration of its new official reporter last night.
This is Blas Rubio García, 66, retired professor of Geography and History and person extraordinarily involved in municipal matters of very diverse nature, among which, in fact, are already studying and disseminating the past and present of Santomera, El Siscar, La Matanza and La Ailla del Azarbe.
The ceremony took place after the municipal Plenary agreed its appointment last May, with the favorable vote of fifteen of the sixteen councilors present in that session, plus one abstention, and with the added support of more than five hundred neighborhood firms, to which are added the associations representing around three hundred people.
The new official chronicler of Santomera was clothed last night in the Municipal Assembly Hall for around 150 people.
Among them, besides the mayor, Inmaculada Sánchez Roca, the Councilor for Culture, María Jesús Férez, and the president of the Regional Association of Official Writers, Ricardo Montes, at the table of honor with Blas Rubio, were former mayors, members of the Municipal Corporation and other local authorities, representatives of different associations and of the educational world, chroniclers of other localities, relatives and friends of the honoree.
Stimulator of culture and sport
For more than forty years, until his retirement in 2012, Blas Rubio worked as a teacher and professor of Geography and History in different educational centers, most of the time in Santomera.
Thousands of neighbors of the municipality can attest to his magnificent performance as a teacher, work in which he stood out for his particular way of living History, for his authentic vocation and his passion for teaching.
He also knew how to combine his work obligations with the long list of altruistic commitments he was assuming, among which his work as a promoter of local sport should be highlighted, especially in the school environment as a result of which Santomera achieved amazing regional and national successes, such as the two Spanish volleyball championships harvested by the Ricardo Campillo school in the early nineties.
He also collaborated as correspondent in Santomera of the newspaper 'La Verdad', a task that facilitated further delving into municipal affairs, many of which were subject to tight chronicles that today, with the passage of time, make up a valuable documentary fund.
With his retirement as a teacher and teacher, he stressed his role as a stimulator of local culture and as a defender of social and environmental causes of various kinds.
He also redoubled his efforts to investigate the history, the environment and the people of Santomera, El Siscar, La Matanza and La Orilla del Azarbe, questions for which his whole life has shown a special interest.
Thanks to his generous promotional impulse, he has been disseminating the results of his studies through the means at his reach: actively collaborating with individuals, associations or educational centers that have requested it, through the cultural work developed by El Quijar de the Old club of which he is founder, through his profile in social networks or in the entries of a personal blog of recent creation (https://santomeraviva.wordpress.com/).
