The works, which will start in January and end in spring, will be completed with the installation of trees and the renewal of lighting, drinking water and sewerage services
The heart of Santomera, the nerve center of the town, will present a completely renovated aspect starting next spring.
If the deadlines are met, by then, around the end of May, the project to improve the street of Gloria that the mayor, Inma Sánchez Roca, and the town planning councilor, Joaquín Rubio, will present this morning.
It is not just another work or a street, but the ambitious comprehensive remodeling of one of the main arteries of the town, one of the most emblematic routes of the municipality, to the margins of which two spaces arise so transited as the Plaza del Ayuntamiento or the health center.
The project is currently in the tender phase the period for companies to submit their offers expires this Thursday and, barring unforeseen events, work will begin in a few weeks, around Christmas.
To carry it out they have set a deadline of six months and a bidding budget of 467,737 euros, of which 270,578 will be contributed by the Autonomous Community through the Works and Services Plan of 2018 and the rest, by the City Council of Santomera.
However, it is expected to be able to reduce both the temporary and the economic figures, given that the commitment to shorten them is one of the main criteria to be assessed when determining who will be the winning bidder.
The list of administrative clauses also includes the condition that ten percent of the workers who carry out the works belong to a group with special difficulties in finding a job.
As a result of this action, the transformation of the street of Glory will be total.
Pedestrians will gain space to the detriment of vehicles with the establishment of the only sense for road traffic can only be circulated from north to south from San Leon Street to the crossing of the N-340, Maestro Puig Valera street, the decrease in number of parking spaces and a more than notable widening of the width of the sidewalks, which until now is completely insufficient and that will exceed even four meters.
Trees on prefabricated tree basins and flowerpots, in addition to benches around the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, will serve to delimit the two zones of a single platform that will greatly improve accessibility and will only reserve 3.75 meters for the asphalt.
The work will be completed with the renewal of lighting with led technology, the burial of aerial wiring and the replacement of basic services of drinking water, sewerage and rainwater evacuation, something that will allow the replacement of old concrete piping in mass , fiber cement, lead or iron, by others of greater diameter and manufactured with more efficient and healthy materials.
Finally, islands will be built to improve road safety at the zebra crossings and horizontal and vertical signage will be improved.
As an additional value, the improvements will extend to Santander and Iglesia streets, which will also see their basic services and pavement renewed.
It should also be noted that the remodeling of the Gloria responds to the will of Santomerana citizens, who showed their preference for this project compared to three others proposed in the course of a participatory process held during the months of October and December 2017.
Friendly and social urbanism
"This street means a lot in our way of being, living and living in Santomera", said the mayor, who later pointed out that "her" remodeling is one of the great pending subjects for Santomera. "" Since we assumed the responsibilities of the Government we have acted in different areas of the municipality to get a more friendly and social urbanism, which cohesion all neighborhoods avoiding degraded areas.
La Calle de la Gloria now adds to this municipal strategy.
It is a challenge and a responsibility, but we have the ambition that this street, which is the heart of Santomera, recover its splendor and can with more force than ever ", concluded Inma Sánchez Roca.
The Councilor for Urbanism, meanwhile, stressed that "the current street of Glory offers poor conditions for both pedestrians, with sidewalks that in some sections do not exceed 80 centimeters, as for road traffic, because the width of the The road does not have the capacity for two vehicles to cross if one of them is larger than usual, and although they can not be seen, it is equally urgent to improve the basic services of the area, because the pipelines for drinking water supply have a state deplorable, with multiple breakdowns, and sewerage networks and storm drains are today completely inadequate.
Next, Rubio explained that "the planned actions will serve to combat the decline of this emblematic road and revitalize it economically and socially."
