Santomera has lived today a day that will take time to forget.
Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of its segregation from the regional capital and the achievement of its own municipality, achieved on September 29, 1978, it has put on long shots to reopen the doors of one of its most emblematic buildings: the Casa del Orchard.
The inauguration ceremony, chaired by the mayor, Inma Sánchez Roca, and the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, met three hundred people yesterday evening, including the most prominent government representatives. and the santomerana society, members of the regional executive, deputies of the Assembly and technicians linked to the rehabilitation project.
La Casa del Huerto is a key piece of santomerano heritage.
Everything points to its construction dates from the late eighteenth century and is part of a complex of great historical and sentimental value that includes a mill from the early nineteenth century and the chapel where the Holy Sepulcher rests popularly known as 'the bed' work anonymous, also nineteenth-century, teaches of the Holy Week of Santomera.
After belonging to the influential Murcia family for six generations and more than a century and a half, in 2005 it was acquired by the City Council through an urban swap;
for eight years it served as the Women's Center, until in 2015 it was closed due to its poor state of preservation.
The work to rehabilitate it according to its original imprint and adapt it to its future new administrative, educational and cultural uses, began in February 2017. However, the later discovery of serious structural problems forced to elaborate a new project and ended up delaying the deadlines and the investment planned.
Thus, the 467,936 euros initially calculated have ended up rising to 672,232 euros, borne by the City Council and the Autonomous Community, which provided a grant of 282,241 euros.
The works have been developed under the guidelines of the architects José Manuel Andúgar and Tomás Franco and have been executed by a joint venture formed by Tecopsa and Alebús Patrimonio Histórico.

"Santomera would not be understood without this place, to which they contemplate two centuries of history, a reserve of what Santomera was in the nineteenth century," the mayoress said during her speech.
"Recovering this historic and heritage space is the greatest recognition we can make on an anniversary like today's legacy of which we are heirs," he added, highlighting the idea that the rehabilitation of Casa del Huerto has been the largest investment in recovery patrimonial since 2003, when Casa Grande was the object of a similar intervention.
The opening ceremony began with the visit to the different units of the building that totals 852 m², where until the next October 5 will remain installed an exhibition on the garden life and on the history of the House of the Garden, its rehabilitation and segregation municipal.
He has also had the performance of the santomerano pianist Ángel Cámara and has closed with a wine of honor.
