Santomera has a new official reporter.
This is Blas Rubio García, 65, retired professor of Geography and History and person extraordinarily involved in municipal matters of very diverse nature, among which, in fact, the study and the dissemination of the past and present of Santomera, El Siscar, La Matanza and La Ailla del Azarbe.
This was decided by the municipal Plenary, with the favorable vote of fifteen of the sixteen council members present at the ordinary session held last night, plus one abstention.
Blas Rubio replaces Francisco Canovas Candel, who died in April 2016, who was to date the only official reporter with whom the municipality had counted up to now (1999-2016).
His candidacy was initially proposed by the government team on December 21 and last night came the time of his final appointment, also supported by more than five hundred neighborhood firms, to which are added those of associations representing around three hundred people .
For more than forty years, until his retirement in 2012, Blas Rubio worked as a teacher and teacher of Geography and History in different educational centers, most of the time in Santomera.
Thousands of neighbors of the municipality can attest to his magnificent performance as a teacher, work in which he stood out for his particular way of living History, for his authentic vocation and his passion for teaching.
He also knew how to combine his work obligations with the long list of altruistic commitments that he was assuming, among which his work as a promoter of local sport should be highlighted, especially in the school environment as a result of which Santomera achieved amazing regional and national successes, such as the two Spanish volleyball championships harvested by the Ricardo Campillo school in the early nineties.
He also collaborated as correspondent in Santomera of the newspaper 'La Verdad', a task that facilitated further delving into municipal affairs, many of which were subject to tight chronicles that today, with the passage of time, make up a valuable documentary fund.
With his retirement as a teacher and teacher, he stressed his role as a stimulator of local culture and as a defender of social and environmental causes of various kinds.
And he also redoubled his efforts to investigate about the history, the environment and the people of Santomera, El Siscar, La Matanza and La Orilla del Azarbe, questions for which his whole life has shown a special interest.
Thanks to his generous promotional impetus, he has been disseminating the results of his studies through the means at his reach: actively collaborating with individuals, associations or educational centers that have requested it, through the cultural work developed by El Quijar de the old club of which he is founder, through his profile in social networks or in the entries of a personal blog of recent creation (https://santomeraviva.wordpress.com/).
As the representatives of the four political groups represented in the Municipal Corporation agreed yesterday, nobody knows Blas Rubio as the historic, cultural, social, natural and landscape heritage of this Huertano municipality.
And no other person also bears so much testimony about it, either in his prodigious memory, in his writings or in his immeasurable photographic archive, which continues to swell day after day.
