The citizen vote increases 56% in the third participatory budgets (20/12/2017)

Adding the investments that will be executed within the POS, the town has chosen the destination of more than half a million euros

The mayor, Inma Sánchez Roca, and the councilors of Transparency and Participation, Víctor Egío, and of Works and Services, Joaquín Rubio, accompanied by Isabel Cutillas, of Zaranda Social Research, the company in charge of managing the process, announced and analyzed this morning in Casa Grande the results of the third participatory budgets of Santomera.

The process, which started in October and ended on Sunday, December 17, with the last day of election, has been marked by the remarkable increase in citizen voting, which has grown 56%, from the 572 registered in the edition previous to 894 of the last.

This increase has also occurred in the four population centers that make up the municipality: Santomera, El Siscar, La Matanza and La Orilla del Azarbe.

"It is very rewarding to empower citizens to decide which model of municipality they want and that it responds in such a solid manner," the mayor highlighted.

Sánchez Roca also stressed that the number of participation reached this year "almost triples the achieved in 2016, the year in which the municipality launched this initiative for the first time."

In the same line, the mayor of Transparency and Participation has said that "we are very happy for this spectacular increase, is the best news we could have.We are talking about almost a thousand people who do not settle for voting every four years, but want participate and decide on your municipality year more frequently ".

In this regard, Egío has highlighted "the mobilization of collectives that had previously participated less, such as immigrants and young people."

Against the 172,000 euros reserved in the pilot experience and 210,000 last year, the Government team has reserved for these third budgets 250,000 euros.

The 40,000 euros of increase have been reserved specifically for the young people of the municipality to choose their own projects;

"This is the highest amount allocated to participatory youth budgets in the entire Region," said Víctor Egío.

The remaining 210,000 euros will be divided among the four main population centers of the municipality, thus ensuring that the investments have an impact on the benefit of all citizens.

Winning projects

Thus, Santomera corresponds to 116,664 euros, thanks to which, given the limited investment needed to carry out the first two, may be executed up to three projects: the incorporation of a pilot service Arabic-Spanish translation, a course of socio-health care for the care of the elderly and the substitution of the artificial turf of the El Limonar municipal soccer field.

The second largest population available, El Siscar, has decided to invest its 33,418 euros in the construction of a pedestrian promenade in the area that runs between Rambla Salada and the village of Los Pinos.

In La Matanza, which has 31,641 euros, an interurban transport service specially designed to facilitate the movement of students to their educational centers will be introduced.

Finally, La Orilla del Azarbe has chosen to continue taking steps towards the achievement of its own sociocultural center, so that the 28,777 that it has will be invested in the construction of a warehouse in the local festival grounds.

With regard to participatory youth budgets, both the students of the IES Poeta Julián Andúgar and the Majal Blando have opted for a weekly bus service that connects Santomera with the commercial centers of the capital.

For its part, in the other institute of the town, the Octavio Carpena Artés, have opted for the construction of a calisthenics park.

Works and Services Plan

Also as a novelty, the Government team has decided this year to take advantage of the voting process of participatory budgets so that citizens also choose the destination of the investments of the Works and Services Plan (POS) of 2018. Among the five projects proposed, the one that has received the greatest popular support with difference is the construction of a bike path that connects Santomera, El Siscar and La Matanza.

The City Council estimates that this will have about 300,000 euros, which opens the door to face, in two annuities, the second proposal with greater support: the improvement of accessibility and the pavement of the street of Glory.

In this regard, the Councilor for Works and Services, Joaquín Rubio, stressed that, "adding the investments included in the third participatory budgets and the POS of 2018, the town of Santomera has decided the fate of more than half a million euros" .
