The restoration of the parish organ, which will end in September (07/02/2017)

The organ of Santomera will sound again next September, after something more than ten years in silence.

The initiative of a small neighborhood commission, which for the last thirteen months has been struggling to obtain the necessary support, and with them the precise financing, has paid off and last Sunday afternoon the contract was signed to carry out its imminent restoration.

The priest was commissioned by the parish priest, Antonio Ballester Serrano, and Carlos Manuel Álvarez Ramírez, an organist who will carry out the work to recover the device.

The event took place in the choir of the church of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, where the instrument has been installed since 1926, and was also attended by the mayor, Inmaculada Sánchez Roca, who endorsed the collaboration with the initiative of the Santomera City Council, which has committed to make a contribution of 15,000 euros.

"We will always support cultural heritage restoration projects and we will be committed to them," says the councilor, who yesterday presented the next rehabilitation of the historic Casa del Huerto.

The rehabilitation work of the parish organ has been budgeted at 122,000 euros, although it is foreseen that this figure may increase by another 6,000 euros to include among the improvements an electronic combiner that allows to previously program the records of the instrument.

The municipal subsidy will be added an equal amount announced by the Ministry of Culture and also has the firm commitment of the Cemetery Board, various companies and the parish, which will channel their participation through monthly quotas of Ten euros for one year.

In addition, we are already working on the constitution of the Association of Friends of Santomera Organ, which will organize charitable activities to facilitate the collection of necessary funds.

It is expected that next week the dismantling of the organ will begin, which will have to be transferred in two trips to Villel, where the workshops of the company responsible for repair are located.

The organero has pledged that the instrument be ready for the next 24th of September, at 12 noon, as part of the patron saint's feasts, to celebrate in the parish temple an act of premiere that will include his blessing and a concert.

Almost centenary

The parish organ of Santomera dates back to 1926 and was donated by the Campillo-Murcia family.

The newspapers of the time reflected that it was "the best instrument of the Diocese, except for that of the cathedral."

The Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary already tried to restore it in 2008, but it never got to meet the essential money and, after spending more than four years in the same workshops of Teruel to which it will now leave, the organ returned to Santomera without The scheduled restoration could be carried out then it could only be subjected to slight maintenance work.

The rehabilitation will consist of restoring and rebuilding the instrument, taking advantage of the valid material but adding new records that expand its interpretive capacity for concert.

In this sense, it is planned to perform periodic recitals and that the organ becomes a key piece to promote music throughout the municipality.
