"Training in equality and values must be compulsory and curricular" (02/05/2018)

Last Friday news broke that the Ministry of Education had decided to paralyze the talks of affective-sexual formation and gender identity that had been imparted for several years in the institutes of the Region of Murcia.

Three days later, on Monday, the counselor, Adela Martnez-Cach, announced a step back in that decision and specified that those talks will continue to be given, but "informing families and enabling them to choose the participation or not of their children" .

Faced with this situation, the government team of Santomera, with its councils of Equality and Social Rights at the helm, wishes to state the following:

That in Santomera, since this year, training in sexual-affective diversity has been offered to all students of public schools in the municipality, not only in secondary school but also in primary school.

This is done by agreement and unanimous request of the Local Bureau of Equality, in which the entire educational community is represented: directives, ampas, teachers, students, administration ...

That this training is carried out under the municipal budget to ensure that it is effective, continuous and not punctual, since the regional government does not provide the effective means necessary for this purpose.

In this sense, it is worth noting that the Santomeran families know about these workshops and that the evaluations on them are being very positive.

That should be formed in equality and ethical values in a compulsory and curricular way, both those who form, govern and administer as well as students.

The rights do not depend on the opinion, taste or particular choice;

affect the dignity of all people.

Therefore, equality must be a matter of State.

Education and training in equality is a right and a universal duty, and to be real it must be compulsory, secular and free.

That this training is the responsibility of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, but that, however, municipalities such as Molina or Santomera assume this responsibility with scarce resources.

We move forward and coordinate to improve the life and future of our neighborhood.
